Atheism in 2010
One would assume by now that people would be more open to the idea of Atheism in 2010. However, it is not the common thread. Instead, the U.S. welcomed the idea of having a president of color. I say of color because many individuals would argue to label Obama as African-American is denouncing his European Ancestry. Second, it would be the same defense that Thomas Jefferson used when referring to Benjamin Banneker. He felt that it was Banneker’s mixed heritage that made it possible for him to excel in mathematics. Some have argued the same ideology for Obama. No one ever wants to focus on the fact that it was economics that drove him to be who and what he is. No one assumes that is was his acceptance into an exclusive private school that paved the way for his Ivy League Education. This same education opened the doors for him to head in the direction of politics. This same action subsequently lead him to win a seat in the U.S. Senate and later a seat as our current President.
Of course not. Instead, we would like to push around the idea of melanin. This same medieval mentality is why Atheism is subjugated to a back door. Yes, it is okay if I for example, are gay black and educated but never shall I say: “I don’t believe any “gods.” Saying so, is as bad as being un-patriotic. Well, we shall save patriotism for a later date. Instead it is meant for me to follow the idea that a god or gods will lead me to the path of salvation. This same salvation will save me from the throws of my homosexuality too. No thanks, I’m driving. I will not sip the grape flavored beverage you serve. I feel that the insipid chaotic state the government is in right now people are holding onto belief like a winning lottery ticket. However, I question the infamous saying “blessed and highly favored.” Oh really? I ask. How are you blessed and highly favored when your pastor or religious leader drives the latest model luxury car, lives in a lavish house, and wears tailored suits? All the while, your catching the bus to your religious service, shop at the salvation army, and live two pay-checks in advanced? I don’t think your blessed nor are you highly favored. If anything, I think your Jesus’s punching bag. Personally, I prefer to take matters into my own hands. Besides, I have no one, thing, or fabricated cosmic deity to blame.
